Comments
Fastball:Dwyer can throw his fastball up to 95 mph.
Fastball movement:Doesn't have a ton and tends to elevate it where it's hittable.
Curve:It's a plus breaking ball, a true curve that he throws 78-80 mph.
Changeup:Does not have one to speak of.
Control:Even with a good delivery, he's inconsistent with his command within the strike zone.
Poise:Competes well and does not look like a freshman on the mound.
Physical Description:Dwyer is an athletic lefty, a slightly bigger and taller version of Mike Hampton.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Potential for two plus pitches, very good delivery from the left side.
Weaknesses:Inconsistent command within the zone makes him more hittable than he should be with that stuff. His unique status as a draft-eligible freshman may have some unsure how to evaluate him.
Summary:Since the Draft was instituted in 1965, there has never been a Draft-eligible freshman at a four-year college. Until now. Dwyer is in his first year at Clemson, but turned 21 in April. A high school teammate of 2008 first-rounder Anthony Hewitt, Dwyer is intriguing as a lefty with a plus fastball and curve. His performance doesn't equal his raw stuff as he's been more hittable than he should be. That said, with an athletic build and two plus pitches from the left side, someone will tread into uncharted territory by taking him early on.
