Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez have faced each other four times in their careers but only
once in the postseason. Here's a closer look at the games in which the two Cy Young Award
winners squared off against each other.
October 16, 1999
The only playoff matchup between the two ends quickly for Clemens, who lasted only
two-plus innings for the second-shortest postseason outing of his career. The Rocket allowed
five runs on six hits and two walks before getting pulled. Martinez, meanwhile, struck out 12
in seven scoreless innings as the Sox coasted to a 13-1 victory at Fenway Park.
May 28, 2000
Martinez tosses a complete-game shutout as the Red Sox pick up a 2-0 victory at Yankee
Stadium. He scatters four hits and strikes out nine. Clemens also pitches a complete game,
allowing only five hits while striking out a season high 13.
June 14, 2000
Neither hurler is involved in the decision as New York edges Boston, 2-1, in the Bronx.
Clemens leaves the game after one inning with a strained groin, an injury that will land him
on the disabled list a day later. Martinez goes six innings and allows one run.
April 14, 2001
The Rocket is back in Boston as a Yankee but once again isn't involved in the decision as the
Bombers earn a 3-2 victory. Clemens goes six innings, allowing two runs and striking out five.
Martinez strikes out nine while allowing two runs over seven innings.
