First and foremost, Mike Mussina looks to keep the Yankees recent winning streak alive as he faces the Royals on Wednesday at Kauffmann Stadium.

The right-hander, however, has a couple of accolades he can pack in his pocket if things go his way. Mussina needs just one victory to pass Juan Marichal (243) and tie Jack Powell (244) for 48th place on baseball's all-time wins list.

It will be Mussina's 204th start as a Yankee, snapping a tie with Tommy John and giving him sole possession of 14th place on the Yankees' all-time list.

Countering for the Royals will be ace Gil Meche, who owns a career 3-2 record and 3.88 ERA in nine starts again the Yankees.

NYY: RHP Mike Mussina (4-7, 4.97 ERA)
After striking out the side in the first inning, Mussina was roughed up in his last start against the Devil Rays, allowing seven hits and six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings at Yankee Stadium. The right-hander will try to get back on track against the Royals, as he owns a career 16-6 record and a 3.30 ERA against them.

KC: RHP Gil Meche (7-6, 3.63 ERA)
Meche pitched well in his last start on Friday, tossing seven innings of two-run ball against the Tigers. It was the first time the right-hander had worked more than six innings since June 15.

Player to watch
Emil Brown is a career 2-for-6 against Mussina with a home run, good for a .333 average.
