NEW YORK -- The Yankees recalled right-hander Edwar Ramirez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, optioning right-hander Chris Britton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Ramirez, 27, appeared in one game for the Yankees this season, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings on April 18 at Baltimore, striking out three. He was optioned to Triple-A the next day when right-hander Joba Chamberlain was activated from the Major League bereavement list.

"He gives us a different look," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He's got the great changeup and Edwar has had plenty of experience up here as well over the last year. He's back."

Ramirez was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in eight games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing two hits and striking out 13 while walking one in nine innings.

Britton, 25, did not appear for the Yankees after being recalled on April 25. He was 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in eight appearances at Triple-A spanning 11 innings.
