Many ways to commemorate opener
Inaugural-season items for sale at MLB.com shop
Yankee Stadium is officially open for Major League Baseball business and drawing a regular crowd now as routines become established. But as the days roll by, fans are going to want to find the best ways to commemorate those first trips to the new ballpark or simply to join in the celebration of a $1.5 billion cathedral in The Bronx.
Here are some of the ways you can do that right now:
That's My Ticket Inaugural Game Ticket Frame: There was a sellout crowd of 48,271 for Thursday's home opener against Cleveland, and this is a dramatic way to display that priceless ducat if you were in that historic crowd. It includes the box score, 300-word summary, officially licensed 8x10 photo of the Opening Day ceremony, and a place for your personal photo.
Highland Mint Inaugural Season Gold Coin: This 24-karat medallion has the official Inaugural Season logo on the front and an image of the new stadium in 3D on the reverse.
Highland Mint Inaugural Season Framed Patch: The same patch worn on uniforms is preserved behind glass in a 12x14-inch wood frame, and it is a classy way to display the new "Pride of the Yankees" forever. It might surprise you that this collectible is only $29.99.
Authentic 1951 Yogi Berra Home Jersey: One of the best parts of Opening Day at Yankee Stadium was watching the legendary former catcher throw out the first pitch. It might be a good time to order that authentic No. 8 pinstriped jersey you always wanted.
Nike "Welcome to the New House" T-shirt: This just showed up at the MLB.com Shop, and we have a feeling a lot of Yankee fans will be wearing that one in the days ahead.
Logo Hooded Sweatshirt: It's sweatshirt weather in New York, and this Majestic Athletic item comes with the Inaugural Season logo on the chest.
Photo Collectibles: Make your own commemorative item by taking photos at Yankee Stadium and then uploading them in the Photo Store. Photograph yourself and friends or family in the Great Hall with those magnificent player banners overhead, and then put the images on such items as posters, coffee mugs, greeting cards and clocks.
Official Inaugural Season Rawlings Baseball: These are the same balls that are being used during home games this season. You can either try to catch one as a foul ball or get one at batting practice -- or simply order it for $19.99 at the Yankees.com Shop. It features the logo and comes with a display cube.
Authentic 59FIFTY On-Field Cap: This is the exact New Era game performance cap that Yankee players are wearing this season, featuring the Inaugural Season patch on the back. Besides being commemorative, it also is a way to fully appreciate the new moisture-management technology -- all-polyester with enhanced performance fabric, sweatbands and undervisors.
Authentic Personalized Home Jersey: It comes complete with the Inaugural Season logo patch that players are wearing on their pinstripes in 2009. The only question is whom to customize -- maybe CC Sabathia because he threw the first pitch, or maybe Derek Jeter after that game-winning homer in the second home game. Not that you actually need a specific reason to customize another Jeter jersey.
Forever Collectibles Replica Stadium: For just $17.99, you can have a miniature version of the new place, and it will be individually hand-numbered on the bottom. These are perfect for using as a paperweight on your office desk, sitting on a kitchen counter, or to decorate any room.
MLB.com Photo Store Prints: Find gorgeous, exclusive photography that will be uploaded throughout the home opener and available by online ordering for $9.99 as an 8-by-10 print or $19.99 as a 16-by-20 print.
Women's Garment Dye T-shirt: This light-blue item from Majestic Athletic is one of various Inaugural Season garments made just for women. You might also want to order a Deep V-neck Hoody from Alyssa Milano's TOUCH collection, and then add that Inaugural Season logo patch to it. These are big sellers anyway, and this is an example of how one can make it commemorative.
iTunes Downloading: Look for the home opener in the MLB.com Games of the Year area in the iTunes Store, and then download it so you can own the full broadcast and take it with you wherever you go forever.
Highland Mint Photo Mint: This unique collectible features a custom 8-by-10 photo showing the Yankee Stadium facade. Each one is presented in a 13-by-16-inch frame with team-colored double matting.
Adjustable Cap: These are just $19.99 and have the logo patch on the front, sure to be seen often around the new ballpark.
In addition to all the ways fans can commemorate the opening of Yankee Stadium, many people also are taking pride in being part of an historic multi-stadium unveiling -- two ballparks in one city in the same week. Versions of virtually everything listed above is available for the Mets and Citi Field at the MLB.com Shop.
