NewsKennedy hopes to see Minor League action

The Yankees' Ian Kennedy, recovering from May 12 surgery on an aneurysm below his right biceps, expressed hopes of being able to pitch some Minor League games this season following an encouraging workout on Tuesday. The 24-year-old right-hander delivered 25 pitches off a mini-mound at the Yankees' training complex in Tampa. Afterward, Kennedy told the Associated Press, "Another hurdle cleared. I felt really good. I'm happy with that. I'm happy with the progress. I'm still on schedule and haven't had any problems yet. "I saw the doctor last week, and he's real happy with all my tests and the results. It's been going really well." The reference was to Dr. George Todd, who performed Kennedy's operation and a similar one on former Yankees pitcher David Cone in 1996. Kennedy, who had an 0-4 record and 8.17 ERA last season in 10 games with the Yankees, was pitching for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre early this season when he experienced numbness in his pitching hand. In Tuesday's workout, he threw off a mound about half the height of a regulation 10-inch mound.Tom Singer is a reporter for MLB.com.
