Twins add four players to Major League roster
Agree to terms with 12 others on Minor League contracts
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have added left-handed pitcher Logan Darnell, outfielder Max Kepler and infielders Jorge Polanco and Kennys Vargas to their major league roster.
Darnell, 24, split the season between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester and went a combined 10-10, 3.22 ERA (153.2 IP, 55 ER) with 45 walks and 120 strikeouts in 27 appearances (26 starts) and one complete game. Darnell was originally selected by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Kentucky.
Kepler, 20, played the entire season with Single-A Cedar Rapids where he hit .237 (56-for-236) with nine home runs, 11 doubles, three triples and 40 RBI in 61 games. He was originally signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent July 11, 2009 and most recently played for Glendale in the Arizona Fall League where he hit .234 (15-for-64) with five doubles and four RBI in 18 games.
Polanco, 20, spent the entire season with Cedar Rapids where he hit a team-high .308 (143-for-465) with 32 doubles, 10 triples, five home runs and 78 RBI. Polanco split time between second base and shortstop and was named a 2013 Midwest League Mid-season All-Star. He was originally signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent July 6, 2009 out of the Dominican Republic.
Vargas, 23, played the entire season with Single-A Fort Myers where he hit .267 (122-for-457) with 33 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs and 93 RBI. His 93 RBI led the Florida State League while his 19 home runs were tied for second-most. Vargas was originally signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent February 25, 2009 out of Puerto Rico.
In addition, the Twins have agreed to terms with the following players on minor league contracts with invitations to major league camp: right-handed pitchers Deolis Guerra and Lester Oliveros; left-handed pitcher Aaron Thompson; outfielders Jermaine Mitchell, Chris Rahl and Wilkin Ramirez; infielders Jason Bartlett, James Beresford, Doug Bernier and Deibinson Romero; and catcher Dan Rohlfing. Right-handed pitcher Virgil Vazquez was also signed to a minor league contract.
Lastly, the Twins have outrighted right-handed pitcher B.J. Hermsen off the 40-man roster to Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins now have 39 players on their major league roster.
