Exciting Fall Classic a TV ratings hit for FOX
Viewership up 15 percent from 2012; Game 3 also generates nearly 500,000 tweets
Saturday night's memorable World Series Game 3 was another dominant primetime ratings victory for FOX and the most talked-about TV show on social media.
A Busch Stadium-record 47,432 fans saw the 5-4 St. Louis victory in person, along with 12.5 million television viewers. That figure was up 19 percent over Game 3 of last year's World Series and ranked as the most-watched World Series Game 3 since 2009, according to Nielsen data.
FOX averaged a 7.4 fast national rating for the game, up 21 percent over last year's Game 3, leading to a dominant primetime ratings victory. FOX topped the second-place network by 173 percent and beat the other three broadcast networks combined, according to metered market ratings.
The 2013 Series is averaging 13.4 million viewers through three games, up 15 percent over last year and leading to the highest average through three games since the 2010 Fall Classic.
The game drew a 37.2 rating in St. Louis, with a 62 share (percentage of available TVs tuned in), the best for any game in the market since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series. It drew a 32.4 rating in Boston.
Game 3 also generated 482,228 total tweets from 211,100 unique authors Saturday, nearly six times as many tweets as anything else on simultaneously Saturday night. There were 110,238 tweets sent within five minutes of the thrilling finish, making it the most talked-about moment of the postseason.
