Yankees agree to one-year contract with third baseman Aaron Boone
The New York Yankees announced today that they have agreed to a one-year contract with third baseman Aaron Boone, avoiding arbitration with the first of six eligible players.
Boone, 30, batted .267 (158-for-592) with 24 home runs and 96 RBI in 160 games with the Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds in 2003. He was acquired by the Yankees on July 31 from the Reds for LHPs Brandon Claussen and Charlie
Manning after being selected to his first All-Star team and being named National League "Player of the Week" twice. With the Yankees, he hit .254 (48-for-189) with six home runs and 31 RBI in 52 starts at third base.
On October 16, Boone became only the fifth player in Major League history to end a postseason series with a walk-off home run when he hit a pennant-clinching, solo home run vs. the Boston Red Sox in the 11th inning of Game Seven of the 2003 American League Championship Series at Yankee
Stadium.
