Olden back as Stadium's interim voice

PA announcer for Spring Training games to sub for Sheppard

ST. PETERSBURG -- Former Yankees broadcaster Paul Olden will assume public-address responsibilities at Yankee Stadium for the park's inaugural game on Thursday and will remain in the position until longtime PA voice Bob Sheppard recovers from a bronchial infection.

Olden, who called Yankees games on TV with Phil Rizzuto and Bobby Murcer in 1995-96, filled in for Sheppard during Yankees workout day on April 2 and for the two Spring Training games played at the new Stadium against the Cubs on April 3 and 4.

Olden's PA experience includes 12 years at the Super Bowl, four years at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., and five seasons with the University of Southern California baseball team. The bulk of his broadcasting career has been spent in radio, with stints calling games for the Indians, Angels, Rays and the National Football League's Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets.

Olden won a New York Emmy Award for best local sports coverage in 1993.
