A-Rod takes part in full batting practice

Third baseman hits three home runs, feels good afterward

So far, so good for Alex Rodriguez in his recovery from arthroscopic hip surgery in early March.

On Thursday, the Yankees' All-Star third baseman took part in his first full batting-practice session at the team's Spring Training home in Tampa, Fla., according to The Associated Press.

A-Rod took 49 swings -- hitting three home runs -- fielded some ground balls, made some throws, hit off a tee and also took some flips.

The three-time American League Most Valuable Player homered to right field, left and deep left-center, and hit "numerous liners and had several other balls land near or off the outfield fence," the AP said.

Rodriguez, who was shut down after a short stint with the Dominican Republic in preparation for the World Baseball Classic this spring, has not ruled out rejoining the Yankees earlier than the projected return date of May 15.
