Yanks sign veteran corner infielder Tracy
By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
Tracy was designated for assignment by the Cubs in late June, then granted his release after he cleared waivers. The Globe stated that Tracy will spend some time in the Minor Leagues, where he can provide the Yankees with corner-infield insurance if the need arises.
Tracy, a 30-year-old left-handed hitter, batted .250 (11-for-44) with five RBIs in 28 games for Chicago this season. All eight of his starts were at third base. Tracy is a .279 career hitter with a .788 OPS and 78 career home runs in parts of seven seasons. From 2005-06, Tracy hit .294 with 47 homers, but in the four years since, he's batted .256 while averaging six homers and 72 appearances per season.
