Berkman day to day after ankle injury
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com
Berkman was batting in the fifth inning when he rolled a double-play ball, making contact with Royals pitcher Bryan Bullington while crossing the first-base bag and tumbling down the right-field line before limping off the field.
"It feels OK," said Berkman, who finished the day 0-for-2 in the loss. "I think it's just more painful than anything else. I twisted it when I hit the bag there."
Berkman was replaced by Marcus Thames when his DH spot came up in the eighth inning. Carefully pulling a cowboy boot over his right foot before the Bombers' flight home, Berkman said that he believed he could be available to play on Monday, when the Yankees open a four-game series with the Tigers.
"I tried to get them to let me go back out there today," Berkman said. "It started to swell a little bit, so we'll see how it does on the plane."
