Jeter passes Kaline with single in seventh
By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
During a series-opening 5-4 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter hit a seventh-inning single that gave him 3,008 hits for his career. That moved him past Hall of Famer Al Kaline for sole possession of 26th place on the all-time list.
Next on the list is Wade Boggs, who had 3,010 for his career and notched 3,000 as a member of the Rays -- as the only player other than Jeter to do so with a home run.
Since notching his 3,000th hit during a 5-for-5 day on July 9, Jeter is 5-for-22 (a .227 batting average).
