Calf strain to sideline Teixeira 10-14 days

Teixeira was evaluated Monday by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and underwent an MRI that revealed the irritation. The Yankees said the first baseman will be evaluated on a weekly basis, but he figures to miss at least half of New York's remaining 22 games if he's out the expected 10 to 14 days.
Teixeira had missed 11 games due to the injury but returned for Saturday's game against the Orioles. He said he could still feel the strained calf while he was playing, then he irritated it diving into first base on the last play of the game. With Teixeira sidelined, the Yankees have been starting Nick Swisher and Steve Pearce at first base.
In addition to the update on Teixeira, the Yankees announced Monday that they will recall outfielder Melky Mesa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
