Grateful host: Hamels welcomes veterans to park
Cole Hamels has done more than his fair share of giving back to Americans who have served during his time in the Major Leagues. The most recent example came Saturday, when the left-handed starting pitcher had 33 veterans join him on the field at Citizens Bank Park before the Phillies' afternoon contest against the Reds.

Young's rising walk total reflects focus at plate
Michael Young played a critical role in the Phillies' 5-3 victory Friday against the Reds. He hit a two-out triple to score Cliff Lee in the fifth inning to give the Phillies a three-run lead. He then turned a 10-pitch at-bat in the eighth inning into his third walk of the game, which sparked a two-run rally.

After peak at plate, Howard navigating valley
Ryan Howard was in a 2-for-29 slump before an infield, check-swing single helped the Phillies score two runs in a 5-3 victory over the Reds at Citizens Bank Park on Friday. Howard had been hitting .322 (19-for-59) with five doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs in his previous 17 games.

Talking past, present and future with Sandberg
Perhaps the most infamous trade in Phillies history occurred on Jan. 27, 1982. Dallas Green had just stepped down as Phils manager and taken over as general manager of the Cubs. In one of his first major moves, he traded second baseman Ivan DeJesus to the Phillies for incumbent shortstop Larry Bowa. The other guy in the trade was a little-known Triple-A infielder in the Phillies' organization named Ryne Sandberg.
