The Yanks refused to surrender in the opener against the Pirates, overcoming a pair of deficits before Derek Jeter's infield single in the 10th inning won it. Andy Pettitte pitched well over eight innings, Hideki Matsui homered, and Mariano Rivera picked up the win.
