The New York Yankees teamed up with the Bronx Borough President's Office to host the 2015 Bronx Borough President's Cup Championship Baseball Game on Thursday, September 3 at Yankee Stadium featuring the Grand Slam Little League and the Kingsbridge Knights. Bronx Little League teams were invited to identify players who excelled on the baseball diamond and in the classroom and they were provided with the opportunity to compete in the Bronx Borough President's Cup Tournament. Several hundred fans were in attendance for the game to recognize the achievements of the student-athletes and witness the Kingsbridge Knights win the 2015 trophy.
Yankee Stadium transformed into an open air ice skating rink when the 2014 National Hockey League Stadium Series came to the Bronx. On Thursday, February 6, the New York Yankees partnered with Van Cortlandt Park Ice Rink to provide 300 area youth with the unique opportunity to participate in Instructional ice skating/Hockey Clinic.
In addition, the New York Yankees allocated approximately 700 complimentary tickets to various community-based organizations for youth to watch their favorite local hockey teams take the ice in the inaugural games at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Yankees and Modell's Sporting Goods are committed to providing local youth with the opportunity to participate in positive recreational and social outlets. In pursuit of this commitment, the Yankees and Modell's Sporting Goods have teamed up to enhance Physical Education programs in New York City Public Schools by providing local schools with the funds required to purchase much needed sporting and recreational equipment for students. During a pregame ceremony on Saturday, September 20, the Yankees and Modell's Sporting Goods announced the partnership and dedicated an initial contribution to four Bronx-based schools in the amount of $20,000 to support the related efforts. In addition, the Yankees and Modell's Sporting Goods invited school representatives and students to watch the ceremony and enjoy the game at Yankee Stadium. Thereafter, the sporting and recreational equipment was hand delivered to each school. Representatives from the Yankees and Modell's Sporting Goods were on hand to present the equipment to students at Middle School 223 and participated in basketball drills during the sixth and seventh graders gym class with the new basketballs.
In association with the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, the New York Yankees invited local youth from Bronx Colts Youth Football to participate in a Clinic and Pep Talk hosted by Boston College Head Coach Steve Addazio on field at Yankee Stadium. Coach Addazio inspired young football players, stressing the importance of being a well-rounded scholar athlete. Following the coach's talk, all participating youth practiced alongside Boston College players, proudly wearing the paraphernalia given to them from the team. The day concluded recapping the day's festivities over lunch.
Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) was developed by Major League Baseball to provide youth from underserved and diverse communities with organized baseball and softball programs. Harlem RBI provides in excess of 1,200 local youth from Harlem with positive educational, recreational and enrichment programming. On Thursday, August 6, the New York Yankees teamed up with Harlem RBI to host a fundraiser. Individuals who made a substantial contribution to Harlem RBI had the priceless opportunity to wear the Pinstripes and play on the field at Yankee Stadium. Thanks to the commitment of the New York Yankees, Harlem RBI and donors, proceeds supported Harlem RBI's efforts to expand programming into the South Bronx and construct the Field of Dreams for area youth to play organized baseball/softball.
The New York Yankees collaborated with United Healthcare, The American Dairy Association and New York City Parks & Recreation to provide approximately 85 local youth, ages 8-12, with the opportunity to participate in a week-long summer baseball camp at Heritage Field, located adjacent to Yankee Stadium. Each participant received a Yankees uniform, professional instruction, lunch, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium.
On an annual basis, the New York Yankees partner with The Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to host the Pinewood Derby City Finals in Yankee Stadium's Great Hall. The Pinewood Derby is a contest where Scouts design and race homemade wooden racecars down a 45-foot aluminum track. On Sunday, April 26, family members and friends from all five boroughs attended to watch local youth compete in the competition. In addition, the New York Yankees provided the BSA with complimentary tickets to attend that evening's Yankees game.
The New York Yankees partnered with the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) to host the PSAL's Baseball Championship Games at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, June 3. Approximately 7,500 tickets were distributed to fans as the High School of American Studies at Lehman College Senators and the East Side Community High School Tigers competed in the AA Championship Game, and the Tottenville High School Pirates and the George Washington High School Trojans competed in the AAA Championship Game.
In association with the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, the New York Yankees, Nike and the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) teamed up to host the 2015 PSAL Football City Championship Game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, December 6, pitting two Brooklyn teams-the Grand Street Campus Wolves and the Erasmus Hall High School Dutchmen. Thousands of fans were in attendance to witness Grand Street Campus' 28-26 victory in an exciting game.
Matches - The New York Yankees worked in conjunction with Major League Soccer and Creative Artists Agency to provide in excess of 130 local youth, ages 7-17, with a unique opportunity to participate in on-field soccer ceremonies in front of a packed Stadium. Participants were given a team uniform/t-shirt, ballpark meal and two tickets to attend the game. In addition, the New York Yankees donated approximately 3,000 complimentary tickets to various community-based organizations, providing area youth with the opportunity to witness the most storied soccer teams take the field at Yankee Stadium.
Clinic - In association with the Soccer Matches, on Saturday, May 18, the New York Yankees teamed up with Manchester City Football Club to host a soccer clinic for local youth, ages 9 - 13, at Macombs Dam Park, located adjacent to Yankee Stadium. Soccer legend Patrick Vieira made a special guest appearance and assisted with coaching the participants through a series of exercises and soccer drills. In addition, each participant received a Manchester City t-shirt and complimentary tickets to attend a Yankees game.
