This year the Baseball Carpenter Cup will celebrate its 26th Anniversary!

Developed in 1986 and named for former Phillies' owners Bob and Ruly Carpenter, the Carpenter Cup Classic, which is recognized nationally as one of the finest baseball tournaments for high school students, is a vehicle to help promote the top area baseball players.

Each year more than 400 high school players from the tri-state area are able to showcase their skills in front of major league scouts and more than 220 college coaches. The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities.

Additionally many Carpenter Cup participants have gone on to big league careers including Mike Piazza, Ben Davis, Mike Koplove, David Miller and Bobby Higginson.

Phillies catcher Brian Schneider is a proud Carpenter Cup alumnus having played for the Lehigh Valley team under Manager Joe Pirro who continues to coach the franchise. Brian will act as the 2011 Honorary Carpenter Cup Chairman.

2011 Champions

Lehigh Valley defeated Burlington County 5-3 to win the 2011 Carpenter Cup title. The scoring started quickly as Lehigh Valley plated a run on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. Burlington County answered back with three runs in their half of the inning, two of which scored on a home run by Maple Shade High School's Kevin McMenamin. The score remained 3-1 Burlington until the top of the fourth inning when Lehigh Valley had two runners on courtesy of a walk and a hit batsma. Nazareth's Drew Herick took advantage of the opportunity hitting a double to collect two RBI and tie the game. Lehigh went ahead in the 5th on an RBI single by D. Borger and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning.
