Red Goes Green

2015 Phillies Red Goes Green Sustainability Initiative Contest
Presented by Citizens Bank

In spring of 2015, the Phillies asked teachers to submit a description of sustainability efforts they had in place in their classroom. From recycling to omposting, teachers shared what they were doing to teach their students about how to care for the environment.

Elliott Karetny, a ninth grade teacher at Timber Creek Regional High School in Erial, NJ, was the winner of the second annual Phillies Red Goes Green Sustainability Initiative Contest, sponsored by Citizens Bank. He was recognized on field pre-game before the Phillies vs. Marlins game on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 when the Phillies celebrated sustainability during Citizens Bank Red Goes Green Night. Elliott led his students in many projects, including performing energy audits in their classrooms and composting and maintaining a 1,000 square foot rain garden that served as an outdoor classroom.
