Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez ran the bases again on Saturday at the Yankees' Spring Training facility in Tampa, Fla., and could begin a rehab assignment in the Minor Leagues as early this week, The Associated Press reported on Saturday.
Rodriguez increased the intensity of his baserunning on Saturday, the second time in three days that the three-time American League Most Valuable Player ran the bases.
Rodriguez, who had right hip surgery on March 9, continues to take batting practice and fielding practice at third base. He is still expected to rejoin the team around May 15.
Meanwhile, injured right-hander Chien-Ming Wang threw 50 pitches in a bullpen session a day after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with weakness of the abductor muscles of his hip.
Wang has struggled this season, going 0-3 with a 34.50 ERA in three starts. He was examined by Dr. Mark Lindsay on Thursday and is scheduled to be examined again on Monday to determine his rehab schedule.
