Appeared in 131 career Major League games (104 starts) over eight seasons with the Cubs (1988-93), Colorado Rockies (1994), Oakland Athletics (1995), California Angels (1995) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1997), going 36-36 with a 4.49 ERA (656.0IP, 327ER)...Was named Sporting News 1990 "NL Rookie of the Year" after posting a 12-6 record with a 3.26 ERA in 27 starts for the Cubs... selected as USA Today "Minor League Player of the Year" in 1988... made his Major League debut at age 21 on Sept. 5, 1988 at Wrigley Field recording a no-decision in Game 2 of a doubleheader vs. the Phillies...Was a first-round pick by the Cubs in the 1987 First-Year Player Draft (fourth overall)... was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 18th round of the 1984 First-Year Player Draft, but chose to attend college.

Personal
Married (Nikki) and has two sons, Tony and Cory, and a daughter, Miani...Tony was an inelder for Concordia University and a member of the 2011 NAIA World Series championship team; and Cory was signed by the St. Louis Rams prior to the 2012-13 season after a four-year college career with UCLA...played baseball at Cal State Fullerton, earning all-American honors as a junior...graduated from Ganesha High School in Pomona, Calif.
